Due to their excellent performance in extreme temperature, refractory metals such as tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum, niobium and their composite materials are widely used for critical industry applications in aerospace, defense, chemical processing, electronics, energy, and medical imaging etc.
Application Areas

  • Aerospace Industry: In the rapidly growing aviation market, the fabricated products made from tungsten, molybdenum and their alloys are critical to the industry due to their outstanding characteristics such as: low thermal expansion, high creep resistance, hot-gas corrosion resistance and superior fatigue properties. Tungsten counterweights find use in airplane and missile guidance system. Molybdenum alloy used in the propulsion components. Heat sinks made of molybdenum copper etc.
  • Glass and Ceramics: Their high thermal and electrical conductivity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and high corrosion resistance make tungsten and molybdenum the best choice for electric heating in the glass melting process. Besides electrodes, stirrers, orifice plates, and mandrels are produced using molybdenum.
  • Automotive Industry: Components made of tungsten heavy alloy are well-suited for highly effective crankshaft and flywheel balance weights in the production of cars.
  • Chemical Industry: The corrosion resistance, durability, workability, and heat transfer properties of the refractory metals such as molybdenum, tantalum and niobium make them ideal for the challenging applications in the chemical industries.
  • Furnace Construction and Heat Treating: Tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum and alloys such as TZM, MoLa are used in the demanding applications in heat treating, sintering, brazing, annealing and other thermal processing applications. Products include heating elements, shields, sintering trays, boats, and other furnace parts used in the hot-zone.
  • TIG Welding & Resistance Welding
  • Electric Light Source & Electrovacuum
  • Medical Technology: Tungsten, tungsten heavy alloy are ideal for shielding against x-rays and gamma rays in the nuclear medicine and other industries involved radiation protection.
  • Power Industry: Tungsten copper are used in the breaking chamber for arcing contact and vacuum contacts of the high voltage applications.
  • Rare Earth Industry: Tungsten is widely used to produce crucibles, cathode and other parts for rare-earth melting.
  • Element Analysis Industry: Melting-auxiliary agents are assistant materials essential for carbon and sulfur analysis.
  • Quartz Industry: Large Tungsten Tube, Machined Die-Plate used as heating elements for quartz continuous melting furnace and high temperature furnaces.
  • Electronics & Semiconductor Industry:
    • Ion Implantation
    • MOCVD system in the LED industry
    • Sapphire growing
    • Heat sinks and Electronic packaging materials.
International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER):

ITER is an international research and engineering project which is currently building the world's largest and most advanced experimental tokamak nuclear fusion reactor. The ITER tokamak aims to make the long awaited transition from today's studies of plasma physics to full scale electricity-producing fusion power plants. The project's members are the European Union, India, Japan, People's Republic of China, Russia, South Korea and the United States.
